If you are like-me. When you go to a blog to post a comment, you are probably wondering—why is everyone else’s image showing up next to their comments but, not mine.
No worries, I’m about to hook you up so you can be popular too and in living color. How about that?
You may ask, “How the heck do I do that and what in the world is a gravatar.”
My blog is configured so that you can use a gravatar for your blog comments. In other words, your picture will show up when you comment. Easy enough… I didn’t use to think so-until a friend, out of the kindness of her heart shared with me how to make my picture show up. And let me tell you it’s been ON every since. Yayy!
What is a gravatar?
Gravatar (an abbreviation for globally recognized avatar) is a service for providing globally-unique avatars which was created by Tom Werner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravatar Thank you, Tom!
Having your own Gravatar allows your photo to show on your own Blog posts as well as those of the other sites and Blogs that you leave comments on. If a site is set to use gravatars and you do not have one setup, instead of your nice mug shot, those viewing your comments will see the blue icon I have displayed at the top of this article.
How to setup a gravatar?
Gravatar is managed by the web site www.gravatar.com. Here you can create a free account and upload any images you wish to use. You can change your image at any time. That’s the cool part, get a new look – change the image. J
How to use a gravatar?
The benefit of having your own Gravatar is that it let’s people see You and makes your comments more personable and credible. Being online in today’s environment is all about people, it is important that you use your most important tool — your brand — which is You!
Remember, a nice photo of yourself works best for business activities. J
It only takes a moment to setup and then your Gravatar will display automatically on any site that has Gravatar support as well as seamlessly on WordPress.com.
How Gravatar works is based on your e-mail address. Therefore when you set up your Gravatar account it is important that you use the e-mail address that you use when posting and commenting on other’s sites/Blogs. Your e-mail address is what will trigger the display of the photo associated with it.
Gravatars are 80 pixels in height and width (80 x 80). So make sure you use a photo that fits those dimensions so that your face doesn’t look quirky when the system resizes your photo to those dimensions.
So what cha waiting for — go get your Gravatar! Then come on back and introduce yourself!
Freeing you to be YOU,
Lisa Renee
